How to Mix and Match Clothing Styles to Make an Impact

Mixing and matching clothing styles can be a really effective way to put an outfit together. It can make an outfit look so much more fun. You’ll never have to worry about a boring outfit when you’re mixing and matching! These tips will help you to get it right. It can take a bit of practice, but it’ll be worth it!

Keep Colours in the Same Sort of Family

If you don’t know how to even begin choosing and mixing colours, start by using colours in the same family. For example, pick a group of pastels or a group of jewel tones, but don’t mix the two. This is a really simple way to make sure everything goes well together.

Use a Colour Wheel

The colour wheel is a fashion saviour - it’s never been so easy to pick colours that create the effect you’re trying to make. There are different ways you can do this, for instance, some like to match colours on the opposite ends of the wheel. Some like to pick 3 colours sat next to each other on the wheel. Try it and you’ll see how easy it is to make great colour combinations.

Try Ombre

How about creating an ombre effect with your outfits? Start off darker at the top and then gradually lighten the shades as you make your way down. Ombre is popular on hair, lips, and eyes, so why not try it on your outfits too?

Black and White

Black and white is always a good call. It suits anybody and goes with anything. The great thing about wearing black and white is that you can pick almost any pattern, and they’ll all match providing they are monochrome. You can even add a pop of colour to black and white if you like to make them stand out.

Be Smart With Patterns

Use patterns carefully to mix and match them without looking too haphazard. For instance, pick a large polka dot pattern and a smaller polka dot pattern and wear them together. You can even mix two different patterns in the same colour to make them work. It can take practice, but there are lot of ways you can make patterns work for you.

Make a Statement With Accessories

You can afford to be quirky with your accessories and show off your personality. I’m forever looking for accessories that I feel will give my outfits character and make me stand out. I look at things like muslim head wraps, patterned shawls, and statement necklaces to ensure my outfits don’t blend in.

Mix Modern and Vintage

Mixing modern and vintage is a super simple way to wear something that nobody else has. I always get a ton of compliments when wearing my vintage, and people can’t believe it when I tell them that it’s not new! Make sure your vintage fits you properly though, or you’ll end up looking a little silly.
