Change Your Life In 2018

Can you believe that 2017 is almost over?

It seems like only yesterday that we all left the train wreck of 2016 behind and looked forward to a fresh start in life. But as life does, it creeps up on us and by the time we reach a place in our life where we are ready to make changes and start to grow: we end up reaching the end of another year.

The sad fact is that the years seem to pass much quicker as we grow older. This means that we end up rushing through life at such a pace that we can never make a positive change for ourselves.

So make the time this week to just stop for a second, and think.

What do you want to achieve in life?
Who do you want to be?

Once you’ve answered these questions, you can look forward to making a positive change in your life.

1. Baby Steps

Learn to crawl before you can walk. The mistake that many of us make in our lives is to try and rush into big life changes without taking small precautions first. Rather than waking up tomorrow and deciding you are going to be a vegetarian: try it out for a few weeks by changing your recipes and swapping meat for alternatives. Give your body the chance to adjust to new flavours and you will be much more likely to keep up with the change.

2. Take one giant leap

On the other end of the scale, there are certain situations where you need to just throw yourself In and hope for the best. There will come certain times in your life when something will trigger a feeling. That feeling will turn into an urge to change your life: and you must listen to your feeling. It could be that you are a in a toxic relationship or a horrible job. One day you’ll wake up with a sense of strength and tell yourself you aren’t putting up with it anymore. Taking this step is incredibly brave and it will be something that will change the way you look at life.

3. Accept your life

If you ever want to be happy with your life, you need to let go and accept where you are. You might not be in the perfect job, have your own home or be married to the person you love yet; but all things happen in time. Don’t try to rush through your life to get to where you want to be. Learn to accept what you have now and appreciate it. Doing this will make you much happier as a person.

4. Be Patient

Success takes a lot of time. It is understandable that you will feel as if you are going nowhere sometimes, but you need to keep at it and stay patient. You will find what you are looking for in life eventually and it will come when it is ready.

5. Forgive

Holding a grudge over someone you knew when you were still in school is not the way to live your life. Staying mad at someone you no longer know will only harbour feelings of negativity and affect your life in a bad way. Instead, learn to let go and move on with your life. Surround yourself with positive people and make sure you share love with the people around you.

6.  Move on

There will always be a thing in life that will slap us in the face and leave us feeling worthless and sad. However the skill we need in order to change the situation is the ability to let go and move on. Take some time alone to focus on yourself and let go of those feelings.

7. Do something you're scared of

Facing a fear is one of the hardest things you will ever do in your life. However, it can also be the best thing you ever do. Doing something which makes you feel scared may seem like the worst idea, but you can have the opportunity to show yourself how strong you really are. It will also put everything else in your life into perspective and you will realize how petty some of your fears are.

8. Stop procrastinating

Adults have this weird ability or think about all of the things they wished they could do, but never actually doing them. It’s always a case of being too tired, too busy or not being in the mood. You cannot expect our life to ever change if you never make it change.

9. Take Responsibility

Your life is your decision, no one else’s. Stop making excuses for yourself and blaming other people for your life choices. If you want to make a change, make it. Only you have the power to change your own life.

Start acting like an adult and think about the future. Go into real estate investment, read-up about mortgages if you don’t have a home, learn how to look for the perfect townhouse or home for your family and be smart with your finances. Take responsibility for your assets and you will find that you are much better off.

10. Chase your dreams

It can be incredibly difficult to chase your dreams when you are working full time to support a family. We understand that. But at the end of the day, life is way too short to spend it just plodding on. Stop forcing yourself to do something you hate and take some time to find your passion. If you have something which you are good at and that makes you excited to wake up each morning- pursue it. Just because something isn’t ‘practical’ doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t follow it. If you are passionate enough about something you can make it into a hobby, and eventually a career if you are smart about it.

11. Fuel your heart

Find things that you love to do and things which make you happy. It could be certain types of food, cozy blankets and candles in the house at night, or even a hobby which keeps your mind busy and heart happy. Incorporate these things into your everyday life.

12. Meditate

Stress is something which catches up to all of us at some point. It can make us feel tired and can also make us feel ill. It is crucial to look after your brain in the same way you do the rest of your body. It is after all the most vital organ in the body. To look after your brain, meditation is the perfect medicine.

Like everything else, your brain needs time to relax and reset in order to run effectively. By spending just 10 minutes each day to meditate, you are bringing your focus inward and becoming more aware of yourself.

13. Express Yourself

If you love to cook and experiment with flavours, you can use this love to keep yourself happy and play around with recipes. You could start a food blog or even write a cookbook if you put your mind to it. Find what relaxes you and use it as a way to express yourself. Some people love to write, sing, play music or even create artwork. Anything can be the perfect canvas for you to express your individuality.

14. Goodbye Comfort Zone

The only way you will ever truly change your life for the better is to leave that safe bubble you live inside and try something new. Step outside your comfort zone and experience something you’ve never done before. Along the way you could find that you discover something amazing about yourself.

15. What do you want?

The key to changing your way of life is to know what you want to achieve by the changes you make. You could be trying to lose weight in order to fit in those skinny jeans you bought last month, or you may want to explore the world and eventually visit every single country. Set out your goals so that you know what you are working towards.

16. Focus

The only way you are ever going to succeed in your changes is to be willing to put in the work. Look at some of the most successful people in the world: they will have spent every waking moment for years working on their project to make it come to fruition. Hard work is the key to being successful in life. If you come home and spend an hour scrolling through your phone before doing anything else, you are missing an opportunity to work for what you want to achieve in life. Take the time to sit down and write down your goals. Once you’ve written down your goals you need to figure out what you need to do to achieve them. And then once you’ve done that, you can start to take action and work on your goals. If you put in that time and effort, you will see results and you will end up being successful in the future.
