Keeping Your Garden Shed Organised

Are you having trouble getting into your garden shed because it is crammed full of too much stuff? If so, you will want to get your shed organised for the summer so that you can start to use it properly again. For ideas on how to arrange everything within your shed, the bhg.com website has some excellent tips which may benefit you and help to make things easier. In reality, it is not that hard to do, you just need to set aside some time and organise everything methodically, which will help prevent it from becoming as cluttered again.

Empty Out Your Shed

The first place to start when organising your garden shed is to empty the contents and start to catalogue everything that is in there. While you are doing this, you have the perfect opportunity to go through everything that you no longer want or need, and dispose of it accordingly. It is surprising at how quickly junk can accumulate, and you may be surprised and what you find in your shed. Only keep everything that is essential in your shed, anything else you can either find a more suitable storage area or if it is no longer wanted, get rid of it.

Storage Solutions

Many quality garden sheds are sturdy enough that you will be able to install shelves or even a small racking unit inside. The more drawers and shelves that you have, the more place you have to store things properly. For items which you use only occasionally, you can also choose to stack containers made from plastic, which will keep everything safe until you do need it.

You may also wish to install a bench if your shed is big enough, which will give you a workspace area that you can use for your latest projects. If you are a dab hand at DIY, you can create bespoke shelving and storage units yourself, that are custom made especially for your possessions. Not to worry if your DIY skills are lacking, as there are also plenty of off-the-shelf solutions which you buy to help to keep your shed nice and organised.

Everything In Its Place

Now that you have thrown away everything that you no longer need and created some storage inside your shed, it is time to put everything away. If you have lots of drawers which you are putting things in, it is a good idea to get some sticky labels and write a brief summary of each draw, which makes things much easier to find when you need them! Make sure that you do not fill your shed too much, as you want to be able to access everything easily, and not have to empty the shed to get to it. If, after going through all your possessions, you still have not enough room then you may just need to buy yourself a bigger garden shed.

With a place for everything and everything in its place, the next step is the trickiest one of them all. Now you have to keep it clean, tidy, and functional without letting it get into a mess again. Hiding the key to the shed from the kids might just help with this!

  1. I haven't got a shed, but these photos are so pretty that I want one haha. I used to have a good 15 plants in my room until they'd like fog up the windows and stuff, so maybe I need a little greenhouse or something.
