Swan Lake: A Ballet Production by Ballet Philippines and The Cultural Center of the Philippines

A week after I watched Wicked, here I am back in the theater, as a spectator, to see Ballet Philippines and Cultural Center of the Philippines' production of Swan Lake. My friends and I watched on the night of Feb. 25, 2017, on its International Gala, with Candice Adea and Joseph Phillips as Odette and Siegfried. The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura, accompanied the ballet. Also, Ms. Margie Moran Floirendo, President of Ballet Philippines Foundation Inc, also participated in the production.

Ella and I had been planning on watching a local musical play or a ballet production since last year but it's only now that we got to really go and see one. And I'm so glad that we were able to watch the International Gala with a live orchestra because truth be told, in my ballet life, back when I was still having lessons at Vella C. Damian School of Ballet, I have never performed with a live orchestra (as far as I can remember that is) and it's always, always been a dream of mine. Who knows if I could still experience that?

Before going inside the theater, I bumped into the woman who taught me how to dance on my toes when I was 4 yrs old and who helped me realized that ballet is more than just "a dance". It's been 7 looooong years since I last saw my first ever ballet teacher and her daughter, who was also my ballet mate.

Because I wanna be the Black Swan, I dressed up in black and wore my sort of gladiator shoes.

So if you think that I was really all smiles after the show, well, nope! I mean, yes, it was such a great ballet production but given that it's been 7 long years since I stopped taking formal ballet training, of course I was reminiscing all throughout! I was actually imagining myself being on stage, dancing on my toes too because I really, really miss the feeling that only dancing ballet can give me. It was a beautiful and depressing experience but that night, I was really, really motivated to go back in dancing. I am targeting this year so hopefully, everything falls into place because it hurts so, soooo much already.

Anyway, I was telling my emosh feels that night to my friend Arby, reiterating my "i wanna go back to ballet" depression story and he made me like, watch this movie entitled, "Billy Elliot" which actually made me like cry the entire movie because I was so affected with almost everything happening to Billy. So technically, Arby made everything worse (hindi, joke lang). But I think me watching Wicked triggered my urge to dance again. And then I saw Swan Lake which strengthen that urge even more. And then the movie is like telling me to stop everything I'm doing and just go follow my heart and chase after my passion!

**the feeling I get from watching theater musicals and ballet production

"The Cultural Center of the Philippines proudly sets the stage for Ballet Philippines' production of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, one of the greatest and beloved classic ballets of all time, to be restaged by the country's acclaimed danseur, Nonoy Froilan.

Through the years, Ballet Philippines has presented artistic creations that captivate the imagination of the audience for both classical and contemporary dance. In these productions, the company has always adhered to the promotion ad appreciation of arts and culture through the highest level of artistic excellence." - A message from the Cultural Center of the Philippines

Anyway, if you're living in the Philippines and you're interested to see Swan Lake, the production will close on March 5 and tickets are still available. You can get tickets online or from any ticketworld outlet.

Let's all go support and appreciate the beauty of ballet! :)

  4. I know what you mean. Watching a show or a performance we love can be a bitter sweet experience. Sometimes it is impossible to make time for every passion we have. Some people have only one passion, some have none...and some of us just want to do it all.

However, sometimes life has a way of sorting itself on itself. You never know, there might be a moment when you can return to dancing again. So, keep that love for dancing in your heart- it can't hurt. I hope your plan works out soon enough- and you manage to find time to start dancing again.
