Iconic Architectural Structures in the Philippines
Various architectural design services in the Philippines are all working hard to create iconic buildings all over the country. This is evident with the growing number of old and new buildings that have been constructed.
The most notable buildings located in the country are:
1. UST Main Building

The University of Santo Tomas is the oldest school institution in the Philippines. Its main building had been designed by Rev. Fr. Roque Ruaño, a Spanish priest and civil engineer, in 1920 to 1923. It can be found along Espana Boulevard.
After the great earthquake that shook Kantō, its design has been fine-tuned, making it the very first earthquake resistant structure in the country.
2. Cultural Center of the Philippines

The Cultural Center of the Philippines or CCP is a government owned building that sprawls in about 88 hectares. The flagship venue in CCP is the National Theatre, which was designed by Leandro Locsin. His “floating colume” signature style–which is defined as an elevated structure with heavy use of concrete–is evident in the theatre’s exterior.
3. National Arts Center

The National Arts Center, which is locally known as the “Tanghalang Maria Makiling,” is another theatre on this list. It is a performance and arts venue meant for artists and students from the Philippine High School of the Arts.
It is another masterpiece made by Leandro Locsin. He based the structure’s design on the concept of the nipa hut.
4. GSIS Complex
This complex is home to the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) since 1936. This service has been providing benefits to the local government employees. These would include life insurance, disability work-related contingencies, as well as retirement funds.
The building’s design reflects how different government bodies should be properly distributed to the Filipino people coming from different classes in society.
5. San Miguel Corporation Building

The San Miguel Corporation Building, which is located in Ortigas, is one of the biggest corporations in the nation. Its design was made by the Mañosa brothers: Jose, Francisco, and Manuel. They were inspired by the Banaue rice terraces.
Ildefonso Santos, who was named as the National Artist for Architecture in 2006, was the one who landscaped the structure.
6. Pearl Farm Beach Resort

The Pearl Farm Beach Resort is located in Davao City’s Samal Island. Francisco Mañosa provided the design of this beach resort. He firmly believed in the Philippines’ indigenous architecture. He made sure to adapt the traditional stilt homes–usually found along the coastline–to the resort’s design.
7. St. Andrew the Apostle Parish

Another handiwork by Leandro Locsin is the St. Andrew Apostle Parish. He made sure to reflect the Filipino’s portrayal of the sacrifice Jesus Christ has made for all human kind.
Both the exterior and interior of the building are magnificent. A giant chandelier can be seen hanging near the altar inside the parish. It was designed by Vicente Manansala, National Artist for Visual Art.
8. Ayala Tower One

The Tower One and Exchange Plaza found in Ayala is a representative of the Filipino Architecture’s modern era. It is a well-known skyscraper found in the country. Leandro Locsin, together with his architectural firm, has designed this structure.
